A guide for people interested in Baptism in our Churches

We look forward to welcoming families to church for a baptism service. It’s always a time of joyful celebration, and a moment when those being baptised are especially blessed by God. Sometimes also called a Christening, the service is friendly and informal. We usually hold our Baptisms on Sundays, though in exceptional circumstances they can be held at other times, by arrangement.

You can be baptised at any age: adults seeking baptism are welcome. A child should usually be baptised in their or their parents’ parish church – but can also be baptised in a church with a special connection to the family. You can check which parish you live in by entering your postcode on the www.achurchnearyou.com home page.

Please contact us  to make your initial enquiry.

We will then arrange for you to meet one of our clergy, to formalise your application and to answer your questions about preparations for the baptism service.

We make no charge for a baptism service, though welcome donations from the family and guests on the occasion.

Please also see the Church of England Baptism page for more information about the significance and format of baptism services.
