About The Cam Vale Benefice

The Benefice of Cam Vale is six Church of England (Anglican) parish churches working and worshipping together. We take our name from the River Cam which runs through our area, situated six miles to the north of Yeovil and Sherborne. We are part of the Bruton and Cary Deanery in the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Each of our churches are open daily throughout the year for people to visit, reflect, and pray. Written prayers and prayer requests can be left in prayer boxes in each church. The boxes will be placed on the altar as part of our prayers (the prayer requests are not read out) We have a Benefice ‘Prayer Chain’ a committed group of people who receive requests for prayer and pray on a regular basis for those in need. Details for the Prayer Chain contacts can be found on the church notice board.

In our worship programme we are currently experimenting with a new pattern of services, partly to help with holidays but also to have the opportunity to worship in a slightly different way. As we have for many years, we continue to hold a ‘Together at Ten’ benefice service on one Sunday of the month, where we encourage everyone to meet together at one of the churches in the benefice (see full list of services for details).

On the remaining Sundays we offer a range of styles of worship, from traditional Book of Common Prayer to the more modern Common Worship, as well as Celtic services based on liturgy from Iona and Northumbria, all-age and informal services and an ecumenical service share with our Methodist friends at West Camel. Each Sunday we aim to have at least one Holy Communion service in the benefice. Our hope is that everyone will feel free to choose the type of service they prefer and move around the churches, meeting and making new friends, and enjoying the different atmospheres.

Our six churches each have their own individual sense of prayerfulness, spirituality and history. Our churchyards, which many enjoy as a quiet space, also have great appeal for people interested in history and architecture and others researching family history. We will willingly try to answer your enquiries or connect you with those who can provide the detailed information you may be seeking. Please see our Churchyard Enquiries page for further information.

Lastly, but importantly, we especially welcome those interested in finding out more about the Christian faith. We run courses and other events throughout the year tailored for those interested in developing their Christian faith.
